Basic (Level 1) - Business
This special course is tailored to meet the needs of executives and professionals who often have to travel to Indonesia and maintain close relationship with their clients. Besides general topics such as asking for information, numbers & family, adverbs of time, hobbies & leisure, making phone calls and appointments, asking for directions, shopping, and going to the restaurants, this course also accommodates more business-related topics, such as working in the office, at the bank, as well as enquiring and purchasing products.
This course also provides an introduction into the cultural and social aspects in Indonesia, such as the customs, etiquette, etc. These “soft” aspects are arguably the most important as relationships are at the root of any profitable and long term business. Attending the course will help executives and professionals to be able to converse confidently in Indonesian language, to be more effective when doing business in Indonesia and to interact better with their clients and the locals.
Basic (Level 1) - General
Do you want to know how to greet a local Indonesian appropriately in a social setting or be able to refuse an invitation politely in the Indonesian language?
Aiming to give first-time learners the basics in Modern Indonesian language, this module also incorporates general aspects of the Indonesian culture and its relation to the language. The main emphasis is on conversation and vocabulary building. Learners can expect to learn simple Indonesian grammar and to understand useful things to pay attention to should they wish to travel or stay in Indonesia for a short period of time. Student participation in class is encouraged through pair work, group work activities, games, and individual work assessments. The syllabus is also interactive in nature, ensuring that learners get to use the language. Among the specific topics covered at this level are greetings, numbers, adverb of time, daily routines, independent verbs, directions, making a phone call, inviting people, making simple suggestions, going shopping and going to the restaurant.
Basic (Level 2)
How would you give some advice to your clients, compare some products, or write a formal enquiry letter in the Indonesian language?
Having mastered the basics of the Indonesian language, students can expect a more thorough understanding of the language in this module. The lessons are designed to equip students with greater vocabulary and a keener knowledge of grammar of the Indonesian language. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to converse in various day-to-day situations. This module focuses on speaking, vocabulary building and grammar. Among the topics covered are: describing people, going to the doctor’s, comparisons, conjunctions, buying things, writing informal letters, writing simple formal letters (enquiry), giving advice, the Imperative structure, Indonesian affixes and passive structures.
Prior to joining this module, students must have some knowledge of the Indonesian language
Intermediate (Level 1)
What is colloquial Indonesian language, and is it different from standard Indonesian? Does Indonesia have famous legends, ceremonies and cultural celebrations? Designed as a continuation of the basic level, the intermediate syllabus covers a wide area of study which will dramatically improve the students’ skills in reading, speaking, writing and listening. Reading and speaking skills are the mainstay in this module. Through improved reading abilities, students can effectively broaden their vocabulary and get used to different writing styles. Short stories and short articles are introduced in this module, as well as some simple documentaries and films. Students will also learn more about Indonesian affixes and learn to construct more complex sentences in this module. In addition, colloquial language is introduced in this level. For students who have not previously completed Basic level module 2, pre-course assessment is required prior to joining this module.
Intermediate (Level 2)
How should you handle a complaint in Indonesian language? Do you want to be able to read articles and magazines in Indonesian language? The second grade of the Intermediate modules will introduce students to more advanced skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students are encouraged to read articles from Indonesian magazines and are exposed to Indonesian films. Colloquial jargons are also introduced. Listening and writing skills are the focus of this module. Completion of the Basic level or pre-course assessment is required before joining this level.
Advanced (Level 1)
What are the common social issues in Indonesia? Do you want to be able to read Indonesian newspapers, journals and periodicals? The advanced level is designed to accelerate the students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. With the solid foundation established via the previous modules, students are expected to confidently seek information about current issues from the Indonesian media and engage in discussions about social topics. More aspects of the Indonesian culture are introduced in this module through the contemporary cinematic medium and other sources. Completion of the previous level or pre-course assessment is required before joining this level.
Advanced (Level 2)
What are the important points in presentation and speech delivery? Do you want to be able to understand interview scripts?
Continuing from the Advanced-module 1, this level aims to further provide students with more variety of vocabulary. Listening is the focus of this module. Students at this level will be able to comfortably watch interviews, talk show and films in Indonesian. Audio-visual learning materials are widely used in this module as students seek to increase their linguistic skills in a more interactive way.
Completion of the previous level or pre-course assessment is required before joining this level.
Indonesian For Specific Purpose
Do you want to know more about common terminologies, business acronyms, Indonesian ethnic groups or the country’s management system? Indonesian for specific purpose is a custom-designed course tailored to fit the special needs and purpose of students in learning the Indonesian language (eg; for academic purpose in Indonesia). Students need to have advanced knowledge of the Indonesian language prior to joining this course (advanced level 1 or more). Please consult our trainers to know more about the various types of courses we can conduct.
One-on-One Course
This is a “private” course specifically designed for low student-to-teacher ratios. With a maximum class size of two students to one teacher, this course offers maximum flexibility in terms of scheduling, while enabling students to progress at a pace they are comfortable with. This type of training is ideal for busy executives who prefer to learn at their own preferred time.
